Internet Explorer 7 Helps You Protect From Phishing |
If you are still looking for software that may help you keep off phishing sites, there is a very cheap solution that you can have almost immediately at hand. Have you ever thought of how you can be cheated by a phisher? Yes, by opening the phishing web page in your browser. So, why not let the browser do the protecting work?
Microsoft claims that Internet Explorer 7 managed to redirect online surfers from 1.2 million phishing sites during just 3 weeks in 2006. They now say that IE may block more than 1 million phishing sites a week. The figures were made public at RSA 2007. The Phishing Filter of IE is believed to be the cheapest solution for those who look for online safety.
Microsoft goes on improving Internet Explorer 7 security. Microsoft says, IE is the first browser that supports new the next generation SSL Secure Socket Layer and the Extended Validation SSL Certificates. Thousands of phishing site addresses are added to the IE database every week. Australian Computer Emergency Response Team (AusCERT), BrandProtect, My Space.com and NetCraft have also joined their efforts and now provide IE phishing site database with new listings.
As for now, in spite of the efforts described, IE phishing filter is not the best on the market. But it is a good cheap alternative to all others present. Anyway, if you use Microsoft's software, why not let them do some extra work for you?
