Google AdWords Phishing Attempts Go On |

May 2008 Google AdWords Phishing Attempts
Google adwords fuel new URL attack - IDG News reports that AdWords credit card phishing attempts still pose a problem to online surfers.
"Official" e-mails from Google AdWords are sent to advertisers asking them to update their billing information. After advertisers click the link and update their billing information, hackers located in Germany, Romania and Czech Republic receive the credit card information. The first phishing attempts of this kind were first registered in March, but they still go on.
Again, if you see the link that is embedded in phishing e-mails, you should understand you will be taken not to google.com, but to http://adwords.google.com.fr4ck.cn/select/Login.
Any e-mail asking you to update your billing information should set you on guard. Always bear in mind golden rules of a safety surfer: never provide any personal information on the pages you land after clicking links in your e-mails. It is a much wiser decision to just type in the real address of the site and see if you are prompted with the same message from the real site. You may find more hints how to protect yourself from a phishing e-mail attack in the article about Complete Guide To Phishing E-mail Protection. |
